To Be Young, Digital and Black

Does race matter when you’re online? That’s one of the question the United Negro College Fund sought to address in the first of the “Digital Media and Learning in Multicultural Contexts” series. The series is led by S. Craig Watkins, Associate Professor of Media Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Examining how young people are using social media, the series steers away from the digital divide and addresses the “participation gap,” technologies and tools that are less likely to encourage the development of sophisticated skill sets and literacies.”
